Artist or junkie? Tabloid fodder or serious songwriter? Libertine or Babyshambles?
Previously this year, it was announced that Doherty had successfully completed his rehab treatment at Hope Rehab Centre in Thailand, which was followed by the release of The Libertines third album, 12 years after its predecessor. With his name back in the tabloids, minus the drug addiction and run-ins with the law, we look back 10 years to Who the F*** is Pete Doherty.
Filmed during the Babyshambles sell-out tour of Britain in 2004 this biographical film from filmmaker Roger Pomphrey captures an intimate portrait of fascinating artist, Pete Doherty, looking at the life of then 25-year-old London singer/songwriter who shot to fame as the front man of the Libertines and received obsessive press attention..
Doherty, born in March 1979, is an English musician, songwriter, actor, poet, writer, and artist, just to list a few creative achievements. He is best known for being co-frontman of The Libertines, which he formed with Carl Barât in 1997, and his other musical project being indie band Babyshambles.
In 2005, Doherty became prominent in tabloids, the news media, and pop culture blogs due to his romantic relationship with ex-fiance, Kate Moss and his frequently-publicised drug addictions which included the use of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine. By 2006, he announced a book deal, publishing his journals and later exhibited his artworks in London and Paris.
Thought to have been one to join the infamous 27 club, Doherty surpassed addiction and continues to outsource his creative abilities.
