SUNDAY SESH // VIEUX CARRÉ

This Sunday Sesh we are raising our glasses to the Vieux Carré !

A good place to start with the Vieux Carre, perhaps, is how to pronounce it.  Although the name is French, the pronunciation most certainly is not.

This cocktail is pronounced ‘voo car-ray’.  In French, this means ‘Old Square’ or ‘Old Quarter’ which was the original name for New Orleans’ French Quarter.

The Vieux Carré is pure Old New Orleans and was invented at the city’s famed Carousel Bar in 1938. This cognac and rye whiskey cocktail packs a powerful punch and is delightfully complex.

 - So dust off that cocktail shaker and get in!

Ingredients:

  • ¾ oz. rye whiskey
  • ¾ oz. Cognac
  • ¾ oz. sweet vermouth
  • 1 barspoon Bénédictine
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

    Method:

    • Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, and add ice.
    • Stir well, and strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass.
    • Garnish with a Lemon peel or cherry!
    • Make another round and repeat!

TOP CULT DOCUMENTARIES // HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT (1986)

    September 01, 2019

This is a good one to start with, only clocking in at a meal-spanning 16 minutes. There are thousands of films made about the 80s, Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! being the latest to tap into the 80s keg and suck it dry. You won’t find a more accurate portrait of the time, however, then you will by reliving a Judas Priest concert with pre-gaming teens in a Maryland parking lot.
